June is National Great Outdoors Month and we’ve rounded up our favorite family fun ideas to help you enjoy all that nature has to offer. What’s that? You think it’s too hot to be outdoors? The desert heat can be scorching this time of year, but we will help you beat the heat.

Here are our 5 Favorite Outdoor Summer Activities:
  1. BikeMt. Charleston Excursion – When the weather’s hot, head for Mt. Charleston! Go for the hiking, biking, horseback riding, camping, picnicking, and more. Or, participate in one of the many Programs offered through the US Forest Service: take a Night Hike, participate in the Art Workshops, or become a Junior Park Ranger. These programs offer the perfect opportunity to have fun with the whole family and learn something new. No matter what adventure you embark upon at Mt. Charleston, it will be a great one!
  2. Colorado River Kayaking Adventure – Carving its way through the Grand Canyon, the Colorado River spills over the Hoover Dam just about a 40-minute drive from the middle of town. Evolution Expeditions is just one of several local vendors offering kayak tours that launch below the dam—then paddle downstream through the river canyon. Their full day adventure includes a sauna cave, a natural desert hot springs and so much more. Kayak tours start at $130 per person. While a bit more spendy, this is a trip your family will always remember!
  3. RiverAdventure Vegas Water Sports – Enjoy an adventurous day on Lake Mead with Adventure Las Vegas Water Sports. Located approximately 35 minutes from the middle of town, you will view the natural beauty of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Adventure Water Sports offers an array of experiences that are a fit for adults and families including wakeboarding, wakesurfing, water skiing and tubing! Private charters start around $113 per person (ride along available for $25 per person).
  4. Cowabunga Bay Water Park – The amazing Cowabunga Bay Water Park features some very exciting water slides and attractions. Thrill-seekers will love the 7-story Zuma ZOOMa body slide featuring a “launch capsule” with a trap door that drops out below you, sending you on a high-speed journey at 40 miles-per-hour through an enclosed flume. Families will enjoy riding together on the park’s unique 4-passenger raft rides Wild Surf and Beach Blanket Banzai. The park’s Surf-A-Rama Wave Pool is one of the largest in the state. Cowabunga Bay offers cabanas with wait service. You will also find a variety of food and beverage choices, including the famous Dole Whip! Admission is $28 to $37 per person. Season passes are also available.
  5. Water-ParkWet’n’Wild Water Park – Wet’n’Wild Las Vegas features a variety of water slides and attractions to keep guests of all-ages entertained and cool. Deserving of special mention are the Rattler water slide, which was the first slide of its kind in North America, and the Constrictor water slide, voted one of the Top 5 Water Slides by Travel Channel’s Xteme Waterparks. Families will also have plenty to explore in Paradise Falls, the large multi-level play structure, and Kiddie Cove, a children’s area with slides and a giant dumping bucket. You won’t want to miss the Colorado Cooler, a 1,000-foot lazy river, and Red Rock Bay, the park’s wave pool. Wet’n’Wild has shaded areas, private cabanas and misters to keep you cool, plus a variety of food and beverage options.
