Holiday Volunteer Opportunities for Families 2016

The holidays are a perfect time to start serving your community!

Have you found yourself wanting to volunteer and serve in the community but don’t know where to look? Well, look no further, here is a great list of local places that are always in need of good volunteers:

98.5 KLUC Annual Toy Drive

For 12 straight days, Chet Buchanan from 98.5 KLUC’s Chet Buchanan & the Morning Zoo will live atop a 30-foot scaffold in the NV Energy parking lot (6226 W. Sahara Ave). Every day for 24-hours a day, he will be collecting donations on behalf of HELP of Southern Nevada. The KLUC Annual Toy Drive is seeking new, unwrapped toys and gift cards for those in need in Southern Nevada during the holiday season.

Help of Southern Nevada

Help of Southern Nevada assists over 1,200 families to receive a turkey and over 19,000 children with holiday gifts each holiday season. You can help by volunteering, donating toys, giftcards, turkeys, food/non-perishables, or adopt a family for the holidays.

Three Square Food Bank

Three Square Food Bank is always looking for volunteers including individuals, families, and groups to assist with their Backpack for Kids, Kids Café, Senior Share, banquet assistance, chef’s assistant and other programs. Volunteers can help fill bags with food, stock shelves, and prepare bags for placement into school bins.

Las Vegas Rescue Mission

The Las Vegas Rescue Mission is looking for individuals to help in the soup kitchen, serving meals, stocking shelves, or to hand out free clothing to those in need.

Opportunity Village

The Opportunity Village serves children and adult with intellectual disabilities in southern Nevada. This year, they are looking for individuals to assists in the Magical Forest to act as a greeter, taking tickets, serving food, ride/attraction operations, etc.

Catholic Charities

There are three ways to volunteer at the Catholic Charities’ main campus. Assists in providing meal service to the homeless at St. Vincent Lied Dining Facility, provide frozen nutritious meals through the Meals on Wheels program, and assists families as they shop at the Hands of Hope Community Food Pantry.
