Family Health & Fitness Day is September 27th!

What is it?

The 18th annual Family Health & Fitness Day USA takes place this Saturday, September 27, 2014. The purpose of this day is to promote family involvement in physical activity.

Get Active. Stay Healthy.

Physical activity is essential to a heart healthy lifestyle. In combination with healthy eating, it can help prevent a range of chronic diseases including diabetes, heart disease, cancer and stroke. Physical activity helps control weight, builds lean muscle, reduces fat, promotes strong bone, muscle and joint development and decreases the risk of obesity.

Children need 60 minutes of play every day, with moderate to vigorous activity, to grow up to be a healthy weight. If this sounds like a lot, consider that eight to 18-year-old kids spend an average of 6 hours a day using entertainment media including TV, computers, video games and cell phones.

Children learn from their parents and other role-models around them.  It is important to teach them how to stay physically active and heart healthy.
