Mom Makes Healthy Meals!

What changes have you/your family made?

Mom: We use measuring cups to measure our portions. We don’t fry foods anymore. I signed up for healthy recipe emails from various websites to get ideas for meals to make. We started workout out together as a family and signed our kids up for soccer.

 Has your whole family been making healthy changes with you?

Son: Yes

Do you think you could have made healthy changes without the support/involvement of your family?

Son: No, it would be hard to eat right if my mom wasn’t making healthy meals for us.

 What advice would you give other families who are also struggling with weight issues?

Mom: Don’t just focus on exercise! Lots of my friends are surprised that they aren’t losing weight when they become more active, but it’s because they aren’t making changes in their diets. Eating healthy and portioning out your food are key to weight loss. I’ve lost 15 lbs in 3 months and Jessie has lost 5.

 What advice would you give to other kids who are struggling with their weight?

Son: Same thing mom said. Oh, and don’t buy junk food!

 What made you/your family decide to finally make healthy changes?

Mom: Starting the Healthy Hearts Program got us to start making healthy changes. We started here when we found out that Jessie’s blood sugar was getting high.

 What else would you like to share about your experience here in the Healthy Hearts Program?

Mom: If you don’t know where to start with healthy eating, sign up for healthy recipe newsletters online and Google search your favorite food along with the words “clean eating.” For example, I found a recipe for clean eating macaroni and cheese. It was made with Greek yogurt.
Brother: There was Greek yogurt in that?
Mom: Yes!
Brother: Well do we have any left for tonight?
