Avoid Stress this Holiday Season with the “4 Ps”

From Dr. Beth Creel, Children’s Heart Center Nevada ~

The holidays will be here before we know it and while they can be the happiest time of the year, they can also be stressful.

During this time, it is important to keep the “4 Ps” in mind.

  1. We all need to be reminded to keep things in Perspective. The holidays are going to be gone as fast as they came and we are only capable of doing, giving and being, the best we can – and this is good enough. We get caught up in wanting to do more, be more and get more that sometimes we lose the real focus – and that is that everything we do, we do from the heart.
  2. Many times during the holidays we have Preconceived ideas. We fall into a trap of what is expected and what we “should do” that again we forget that all we can do is our best and that our kids and family and friends know this.
  3. The Planning during this time can also get out of hand. We tend to plan on grandiose scales during the holiday and sometimes smaller is truly better. The big picture of the holiday season can be overwhelming – so take it slow and then go.
  4. And finally give yourselves Permission not to over do it, not to prove yourself and not to sabotage yourself by setting unrealistic goals just because you think this is what you are “supposed” to do. Take the holidays in stride, enjoy your time with friends and family, don’t put undue or added pressure on yourself and, most of all, recognize what a good person you are and how much you give to others throughout the year – not just during the holidays.
Have a Happy and Healthy Holiday Season!
