August is “Kids Eat Right” Month

It is the perfect time to start getting your kids back on track!

Every August, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and its Foundation celebrate Kids Eat Right Month. The main purpose is to highlight the role everyone plays in ensuring the health of our children. Kids Eat Right Month focuses on the importance of healthy eating and physical activity for both children and families. With school starting just right around the corner, it is the perfect time to start getting your kids back on track!

Take the following steps:

1. Shop Smart – take your kids grocery shopping and allow them to pick healthy foods for their meals.

2. Cook Healthy – let your kids help out in the kitchen by cutting, mixing, or prepping certain parts of a meal.

3. Eat Right – sit down together as a family to enjoy dinner and build a closer relationship by talking about each other’s day.

4. Healthy Habits – establish healthier eating habits by teaching about the five major food groups and portion control.

5. Get Moving – encourage physical activity for at least 30-60 minutes each day to promote a healthy weight.
